This project is the first for a new Kentish start-up. The client approached me with a prototype chocolate box he required a feminine design for. He had some initial thoughts on colour and name, but with his agreement, I wanted to explore brighter themes that I felt would have more shelf standout and set them apart from similar products in the category.
I devised an exciting colour scheme and name that my client loved and once we saw the printed sample come back from the manufacturer, we were certain it would work.
I created an insert (menu), some supporting point of sale, shelf-ready packaging and some logos and presentation templates to help my client present his new product as professionally as possible. All product and lifestyle photography was shot in-house.
UPDATE: Since launching, we have created a whole range of the boxed chocolates, and a brand new range of bars. The boxes are selling particularly well and are gaining wide distribution.
"...it wasn't until I worked with Becky that the Brand really came "to life". As much as the structure of the business is important, it has truly been the hard work and creativity that Becky has given to the project that has put it in such good stead on its launch.
The feedback on the product so far from both customers and retailers has been phenomenal. The reaction to the products branding has been overwhelmingly positive and beyond my wildest expectations."

Faversham Say "NO" to Plastic Campaign
Having recently moved to the market town of Faversham, I saw a video from a local resident, Sally Edge, who wanted to 'do something' about the global plastic problem on a local basis.
We very quickly formed a 17-strong campaign team and formed into sub-groups. Our goal was to encourage our businesses and residents to give up as many of the 'single use' plastics as they could, for the duration of our 'Challenge Week' (and beyond if possible).
I managed the Media Team of five talented people. We contributed various graphics for print and social media (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram), ran and monitored the social media accounts and issued press releases.
I devised a simple, eye-catching logo which quickly appeared all around town in shop windows as our posters and 'pledges' were put on display. Thanks to brilliant teamwork from all the people involved, the campaign was incredibly successful - we got regular press attention and featured on BBC South East Today two or three times.
I created posters, information flyers, and social media banners. Thanks to our other graphic designer, we also had printed banners and a wonderful array of social media images offering advice and ideas on how to cut down on plastic use.
The campaign was such a success that we have inspired other towns nearby to run their own versions - we will remain as a campaign group and intend to do more through the year and repeat the 'Challenge' next year.
This was designed for local businesses as well as individual householders to display in their windows.
Information leaflet - these were given out to local groups, handed out at the market stall and we also did a door-drop.

Social Media imagery
I designed a series of headers and event photographs for our social media featuring our logo and local coastal landscape.
One of the more than 50 local businesses that participated in our Challenge Week.
This was our information/campaign stand set up in the town square on market days on the lead up to and during the Challenge Week.
I have been creating publicity materials for fantastic Medway based Gillingham Dramatic Society (GDS Productions ) for around 8 years now. They present two productions every year: a musical and a pantomime. Each production is a fresh design challenge - and for each one I will produce an array of materials, including posters, flyers, banners, programmes and images for social media, such as Facebook and Twitter headers.
I also arrange professional photography in partnership with The Other Day Photography and publicity shots and can use this to create other promotional materials such as imagery for Facebook.
NATIONAL RECOGNITION FOR DESIGN:
Each year, the society submits my poster artwork to the National Operatic and Dramatic Association for their annual poster competition. My artwork has now won the regional finals for 5 years and I'm delighted to say that my poster artwork for Honk! won the national poster competition 2016.
"GDS Productions have had the privilege of working with Becky for several years. She produces the artwork designs for all of our shows; formatting them for posters, banners and most recently a vinyl wrap for application to a van for advertising purposes. She also works with our publicity committee to compile our programmes. All of her work is exemplary, fulfilling each brief provided and, most importantly, capturing the essence of each individual show. Becky has been recognised and rewarded many times for the quality of her work by NODA, the UK’s national association for amateur theatre companies. Becky really understands her clients’ needs and it is a pleasure working with her." LAURA DEE (Committee and publicity manager, GDS Productions)
AB World Foods
Prior to my freelance career, I spent seven years as an in-house designer for AB World Foods in the FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) sector. I have also just completed a year long contract there as Studio Manager. I was lucky enough to work on some of the largest brands in their categories, including Blue Dragon, Patak's, Levi Roots, Tabasco, and many smaller brands within the company portfolio.
Although initial branding concepts were established by outside agencies, my work involved developing brand guideline documents and working on many and varied projects including print and web advertising, point of sale, neck collars and fix-a-forms, brochures/flyers, exhibitions/events, social media imagery, packaging artworks, product photography (in house), concept development and mockup creation, art direction and food styling (with specialist photographers), and artistic support for any ad hoc internal events/projects.
My experience managing projects as an in-house designer has prepared me well for a freelance career. I have worked with marketeers, salespeople, researchers, design, advertising, web and experiential agencies, printers, convenience stores and grocery multiples (Morrisons, Sainsbury's, Tesco, ASDA) and worked independently on each assignment as a designer/account manager.
Here is a small selection of imagery of some of the work I have done over the more recent period.
TESTIMONIAL "Becky is a great designer to work with and has produced some brilliant pieces for the Levi Roots brand even within very tight deadlines. Becky has designed everything from stickers to banners, brochures, leaflets and posters and all of them have brilliantly portrayed the brands emotion and personality, giving them the vibrancy the brand emits! Becky is also a happy, friendly and lovely designer to work with!" Kat Miller, Brand manager, Levi Roots.
Rochester Choral Society
I have worked on some completely new brands recently, but some clients need a refresh: updating existing branding that smartens up their image, without alienating their existing clientele.
This project I undertook for Rochester Choral Society. They have an older, established audience but are keen to attract younger audiences, so wanted a fresher, professional look to their artwork and logo. They also want their artwork to reflect the professional standards they are achieving in their performances.
For the logo, the existing design was to be preserved as much as possible (as it was designed by a society member through a competition), but I have made it stronger, and more modern.
"Rochester Choral Society has been using Becky increasingly over the last year or so, to advise, design and produce our publicity in a coordinated way. That has involved posters, flyers, concert programmes and brochures.
The service has been outstanding and Becky has even enabled us to achieve an overall saving in our publicity costs!"
Chris Clemence, Treasurer, Rochester Choral Society.
Kent & Maidstone Vegan Festivals
In the last two years, Kent has seen two new, and extremely successful vegan festivals: Kent Vegan Festival (in Canterbury) and Maidstone Vegan Festival. I was asked to do the artwork for both events.
This included printed posters, flyers, banners and leaflets, as well as web ads and graphics that were widely shared.
The design for Kent Vegan Festival features a composition of many hand drawn elements, including the wording itself, to give the festival a friendly, non-corporate feel.
The artwork was much talked about and did a great job: we attracted twice as many visitors than we had expected, with half hour long queues outside the venue!
or the Maidstone Vegan Festival, a simpler family friendly poster was required, which is clearly recognisable. This style was easily translated into a poster for a related event, the Launch Party.
"Rebecca has done a fantastic job of creating a suite of designs for the Maidstone Vegan Festival including posters, flyers and Facebook banners and logo. The brief was to create a brand with a distinctive, positive, family-friendly feeling which was also bold and eye-catching giving an impression of the festival atmosphere and the celebratory air... also, ideally incorporating an animal theme if possible! In other words it was quite a tall order!!! Rebecca made it look easy fulfilling this challenging brief and gave us numerous options from which to choose. She has done a fantastic job and our designs have been very well received by the public." Felicity Stone, Maidstone Vegan Festival Organiser
Kent Creative Awards
Kent Creative Arts CIC was set up to "To encourage and promote creativity, enable community engagement, support professional development and maximise the impact of the arts and culture on the wider community of Kent."
I am a member of KCA and attend networking events where I get to meet other creatives from Kent, and share info, contacts and potentially collaborate on upcoming projects. Nathalie Banaigs, who runs the organisation, decided it was time to run a Kent Creative Awards Ceremony to officially recognise the achievements of those working in the arts sector in the County, and to help create a buzz and pride amongst us.
Nathalie employed various members of the organisation to help her bring the event to life. I was excited to be asked to design the programmes and certificates. It was a fun process, as we wanted them to be creative, so I filled them with colour and original drawings.
Designed by Mrs Lovesy
Designed by Mrs Lovesy is another new Kentish startup business that I have been delighted to be involved with.
Adriana Lovesy, who runs the business, launched a few ranges of her self-designed, hand-embellished greetings cards in 2015. She has been so successful that she been nominated for twice an industry award (The Henries) for her card ranges. She takes pride in outsourcing work to local people to allow her to create a professional and efficient business.
I am her go-to designer, and regularly help her with all sorts of ad hoc work, including brochure design, business cards, labels and stickers, logos, motifs and photography.
All product photography is done in-house, which keeps costs for my client lower - especially in this dynamic business where brochures and ranges change regularly.
Veetee Rice have a large operation in Rochester, Kent and have commissioned me for both design and illustration work.
Their pack artworks have a very distinctive look and feel - featuring brightly coloured airbrush paintings. I was asked to recreate existing artwork in this style (the paddle steamer and elephants) and to also conceive a whole new design from scratch (the woman dancing in front of the temple).
TESTIMONIAL: "Working with Becky is absolute pleasure. She is committed to getting each project right and very efficiently to brief. It's great to find a graphic designer who is on the same page, and it tells in the results. Hardworking, dedicated and performs well under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
She is an extremely talented graphic designer and really has a great attitude towards her work, very professional and passionate. She has strong interpersonal skills which enable her to work effectively with a wide variety of individuals across all tiers.
I strongly recommend Becky as an exceptionally talented and motivated designer."
